Nowadays, social media platforms are widely used as information sources. As various news is popping up, fake news has become a part of our daily life. Sometimes, the truth is even covered by them. In such situations, it is quite difficult to distinguish between fake news and facts. Both disinformation (which are purposely distributed) and misinformation (which are unintentionally distributed) can be seen, especially in our virtual life. Indeed, they are like toxins to people, manipulating them. That's why it is very important to avoid these toxic fake-news.

Here are some tips for fact-checking to avoid these fake news and not to misinform

  1. Have doubts on events

We ought to be cautious about all news (photos, status, videos) and always question its possibility.

  1.  Whether the source has certainty or not

As we read an article, it is important to check whether they are based on real evidence or just lobbying fake news.

  1. Prioritize harmful fake news

We may sometimes be required to read news hurriedly due to an emergency situation. If so, we need to check critical and alarming news first.

  1. Do not analyze news based on personal emotions

When reading news, set our emotions and expectations aside for a moment. Decide and share only realistic news.

  1. Keep in mind that news channel cannot be constantly correct

Not every verified channel or person has reliable information. Sometimes, fake news is based on false context. So, it is safest to analyze and believe news after they have been confirmed by at least 2 other media.

The above steps are some ways we can attain, distinguish and share correct information by ourselves. Thus, we do hope everyone to not spread and to stay away from these so called toxic fake news.
